Unfortunately, the city of Smyrna is undergoing a system of expansion which has been labeled as "detrimental" to residents of the surrounding unincorporated areas of Cobb and it's existing residents. The rapid growth policies of the city of Smyrna has led the city managers to acquire land through annexation and then approve residential developments proposed by unscrupulous builders. These builders are often allowed to grade and develop residential areas at higher and higher elevations, above the areas that are already inhabited by current residents, thus causing many flooding problems to the residents of unincorporated Cobb County. The storm water runoff capabilities of the County residents are now being utilized by Smyrna leading to much criticism of these often unfair policies.
